Montreal filmmaker Eric Scott’s most recent offering, Leaving the Fold, describing the issues involved in rejecting personal allegiance to the chassidic way of life, was voted best documentary at last month’s International Festival of Cinema and Religion in Trento, Italy. The film was praised as an “extraordinary documentary which fully exploits the expressive possibilities of storytelling through image.”

Renowned McGill University physicist Victoria Kaspi recently won the 2009 Prix du Québec, the province’s highest honour, in recognition of her contribution to the social and scientific advancement of Quebec. Kaspi’s cutting-edge research has included examinations of neutron stars, pulsars and supernova remnants. Kaspi received her $30,000 Prix Marie-Victorin for natural sciences and engineering at a Nov. 3 ceremony in Quebec City.
