How to contact the editors of The CJN

The CJN is Canada’s largest independent Jewish news organization, and we are always looking to add to our roster of reliable freelancers across Canada and beyond. If you’re a freelance journalist looking to cover a story, a pundit looking to submit an opinion piece or a reader wanting to add your voice to our pages, we will consider your inquiry. We pay for every news story.

How to pitch a news article

Note: This form is for journalists only. Press releases will be ignored. To submit a press release, use the Contact Us form.

If you are interested in submitting a freelance pitch, first look at our website to read what we have covered and the types of stories we are interested in.

Using the form below, send us one paragraph describing the story and some of the sources you would include. We will respond within a few days. We cannot consider stories that have run somewhere else first. The CJN pays for every news article it runs.

Primarily, we are interested in news stories and features with a news peg. If you are submitting a pitch with a hard time element, please give us plenty of lead time.

We are not currently looking for recipes or travel stories. If you are looking to review books, movies, theatre, etc., please scroll down to submit a Perspective.

Submit to the Opinion section

The CJN publishes a wide range of opinions on issues that matter to Canadian Jews. These are categorized as Perspectives or Opinion, depending the format.

Perspectives are well-researched, previously unpublished articles about current events with urgency for our community. We will also consider argument-driven cultural criticism (e.g. book or movie reviews). Perspectives are approximately 800 words long.

For Perspective submissions, send us a pitch (no full articles, please) using the form below. Pitches should include the topic, your argument about it, and—briefly—your reasons. First-person writing is fine, but we are not seeking personal essays at this time. If we are considering the pitch, we will be in touch.
