The Jewish Public Library marks the shloshim (30th day) since the death at age 96 in Israel of celebrated Yiddish poet, partisan and cultural icon Avrom (Abraham) Sutztkever, 2 p.m. at the Gelber Conference Centre. ORTHODOX AND GAY

Maimonides Geriatric Centre is holding a 4 p.m. information/orientation session for high school, CEGEP, and university students for its eight-week MISSIVE program (June 21-Aug. 13). SPORTS BREAKFAST
Montreal Impact soccer team president Joey Saputo will be the guest of honour at the Cummings Jewish Centre for Seniors’ sixth annual Sports Celebrity Breakfast, March 28, 9:30 a.m. at the Gelber Conference Centre. Tickets are on sale for the very popular event, which raises funds for the centre’s Seniors in Crisis program. It draws hundreds of sports fans, features a silent auction of sports memorabilia and has kids clamouring for autographs from dozens of sports and broadcasting figures. Sports figures are slated to include members of the Montreal Canadiens and Montreal Alouettes, as well as the Canadian Olympic team. Special guest speaker will be former Montreal Expos pitcher Bill “Spaceman” Lee. The planning committee is being chaired by Mike Wegan, with Morden “Cookie” Lazarus as honorary chair and Mike Cohen and dad Larry Fredericks handling MC duties. MAIMONIDES CREATIVITY
An exhibition of artworks by Maimonides Geriatric Centre residents  – including Jack Inhaber and Claudio Etauri – was recently on display in the centre’s ground floor cafeteria. The theme was “Rediscovering our Inspiration.” The art was produced under the guidance of art therapist Sandra Goldman.
