Your Daily Spiel is The CJN’s (almost) daily roundup of trending stories in the Jewish world.
Let the games begin: The 20th Maccabiah Games started to today with an opening ceremony at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem. A sizable Canadian contingent will be participating in the Games, including Liberal MP Anthony Housefather.
Speedy Meaty: A Toronto man is using the power of social media to inform his followers about the best deals on kosher meat. He’s even used his newfound power to spark price wars between local retailers. With barbecue season now in full swing, it doesn’t get better than that for kosher consumers.
No tellin’ who will show up: Speaking of The 6ix, Margaret Atwood is trying to get Drake to make a cameo appearance on the second season of the TV adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Modi Mania comes to Israel: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up his three-day tour of the Holy Land today. He now heads to the G20 conference in Hamburg, Germany.
Indigenous Friends of Israel: These days, it seems like there’s no shortage of groups with seemly no connection to the Middle East that are lobbying on behalf of the Palestinian cause. So it’s nice to hear that a group of aborigines from Australia has challenged the Australian Labor Party’s push to recognize Palestine as a sovereign state. “As Indigenous people, we know what apartheid is. Israel is a beacon of democracy in the Middle East and has Arab members of the Knesset and has Arabs living peacefully and working in all walks of life enjoying their democratic freedoms,” said a spokesperson for Indigenous Friends of Israel.
Trump’s snub: First, the White House released a statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day without mentioning the Jews or anti-Semitism. Now, Donald Trump has become the first U.S. president since the fall of the Iron Curtain to visit Warsaw without making a stop at the memorial for the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Anyone who still thinks this president is a friend of the Jewish People has their partisan blinders on too tightly.
