FIFA has banned Jibril Rajoub, the head of the Palestinian Football Association, from attending soccer games for 12 months for inciting vitriol and violence toward Lionel Messi. Rajoub encouraged Arab soccer fans to burn Messi posters and shirts if he participated in an Argentina game in Israel in June, which then led to Argentina cancelling the World Cup warmup match.

The Combined Jewish Appeal launched its 2018 campaign last night in a huge tent in Hampstead Park, Montreal. About 700 people attended the event that was both a celebration of the richness and diversity of the Montreal Jewish community and a reminder that many of its members are unfortunate.

Anti-Semitic slogans and symbols were recently found scrawled on monuments for Holocaust victims in Estonia. The monuments, erected at sites of mass killings of Jews during the Holocaust, were also damaged with a blowtorch, with one defaced with a swastika.

Highlights from the latest round of Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) announcements include the Canadian premiere of the critically-acclaimed film Monsters and Men, which will be introduced by Drake, and the newest instalment of Jason Reitman’s Live Read. Reitman had previously conducted live stage readings of classic films American BeautyThe Princess Bride and Boogie Nights at TIFF, and this will mark the second time he’s staged a reading of The Breakfast Club.
