Another Jewish holiday, another series of holiday-themed parody videos. Yes, the tradition of spoofing pop hits for chagim has become ingrained into Jewish pop culture in recent years. Last year, for Chanukah, we were given spoofs of Adele’s “Hello” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling” – there was also an updated version of Adam Sandler’s “The Chanukah Song.”
For Passover 2016, in addition to a flight safety video that teaches Seder etiquette, two new music videos were unleashed this week. The first is “The Adele/Bieber Passover Mashup,” which cleverly stars Charlton Heston and Yul Brynner (reprising their roles from The Ten Commandments) and some Egyptian sock puppets for some reason.
The second comes from Y-Studs of Yeshiva University, an a cappella group that transforms Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” into a tale about the Passover Seder. Of course, the chorus goes: “It’s just a Seder, Seder night.”
The parody features a Zombie-like dance sequence, useful information about why we celebrate Passover, and even a rap verse!
So if you’re looking to sing a few pop hits at the Seder table (after “Dayeinu,” of course), feel free to bust out these fun parodies – mind you, since the first Seder falls on Shabbat, you may have to wait until the second one to show off your dance moves.
