J.K. Rowling recently got into a Twitter argument with fellow author Simon Maginn over his criticism of Jewish complaints about anti-Semitism in the U.K. Labour Party; Former Being Erica showrunner Aaron Martin is working on a new sci-fi show for Netflix, called Another Life; and several lawmakers from an Arab-Israeli political party are involved in an effort to get the U.N. General Assembly to officially condemn Israel’s nation-state law.

Troy: The right idea in the wrong bill at the wrong time

Politics is all about perception and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government certainly should have been much more sensitive. It should have built a broad consensus behind the nation-state bill, which becomes a de facto part of Israel’s constitution, by playing to Israel’s best self and by reassuring the worried – not by riling up the yahoos and passing it by the narrowest of margins.

Kay: The scorpion in the Jewish world’s fire

When I consider the scourge of anti-Semitism in its present anti-Israel form, I often remember the scorpion from the Raj Quartet. Israel is small but powerful and rightly feared for its sting when attacked. It is ringed by external enemies, but it is also threatened by the venom produced within its own body.
