Journalism itself became the story this week, when the group Canadian Journalists for Free Expression called on Canada to condemn Israel for its “one-sided” use of military force against civilian demonstrators and media in Gaza, and to press for an end to “these brutal practices.”

A lieutenant in the IDF, Hadar was serving in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge when, 90 minutes into a ceasefire mediated by the UN and the U.S., he was kidnapped by Hamas.
