Israel to UN: Condemn Palestinian ambulance for neglecting Jewish victims

“An ambulance that doesn’t treat wounded civilians is complicit in terrorism," says Ambassador Danny Danon

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon has asked U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to publicly condemn the Palestinian Red Crescent organization.

The request comes after one of its ambulances that was near the site of Friday’s shooting attack near Otniel, which left Rabbi Ya’akov Litman and his son Netanel dead, failed to treat the wounded Israeli Jews.

“An ambulance that doesn’t treat wounded civilians is complicit in terrorism. We’re talking about egregiously ignoring all universal moral values and contempt for human life,” Danon wrote to Ban.

According to Ynet News, the Red Crescent team arrived at the scene, but failed to offer aid to the wounded. The Red Crescent organization has denied these claims, saying it left the scene after a military medical team arrived “which made them feel unsafe.”

The family of Rabbi Litman reportedly said that the team left after they realized that they (the wounded) were Jewish. In a Magen David Adom emergency service hotline recording, a family member said, “There is a Red Crescent vehicle here….the vehicle left us – I don’t know why.”

Danon said that an ambulance not treating wounded people was a direct violation of international law.
