He is a bestselling popular historian, professor and official biographer of Israeli president Shimon Peres. Elected to parliament for Labour, Michael Bar-Zohar was also a friend of Ariel Sharon, a paratrooper in four wars, and for years has been a determined supporter of peace. Born in Bulgaria in 1938 he was a special guest at this year's Paris book fair honouring Israeli culture, where Sergio Cantone spoke to him.
