Former Montreal mayor Denis Coderre has been hired as an “ambassador” for the Jewish General Hospital Foundation.
He will assume the position on May 1, under a one-year renewable contract, said foundation president and chief executive officer Myer Bick.
Coderre’s job will be to work “closely with the foundation’s board and staff to advance the foundation’s mission to provide essential funding to the hospital,” according to a press release.

Bick noted that Coderre has many qualifications that make him ideal, including his many contacts, especially in the corporate world, his reputation for building bridges between communities, his communication skills and his “passionate” personality.
“It’s a marriage made in heaven,” said Bick.
Coderre lost the municipal election in November, after serving one term in office. He served as a Liberal MP from 1997 to 2013, during which he held a number of cabinet posts, including immigration minister.
In a statement, Coderre said he is “very pleased and honoured to join the wonderful Jewish General Hospital Foundation team as an ambassador. I believe deeply in our health system. The challenges are great and the role of the foundations is paramount.”
The week before, Coderre was named as a special adviser to Stingray, a Montreal-based provider of multi-platform music and video products, to help it expand into international markets.
Last year, Stingray bought Yokee Music Ltd., an Israeli karaoke and instrumental music app provider.
