Calgary’s Jewish Community Centre was evacuated Monday evening (Feb. 27) following a bomb threat.
The threat was telephoned in around 5:45 p.m., Judy Shapiro, associate executive director of the Calgary Jewish Federation, told The CJN.
Police responded and officials decided to close the building “as a precaution.” Nothing was found following a police sweep, Shapiro said.
She said about 100 people were in the building at the time.
The JCC opened the next morning, Feb. 28, at its normal time, 5:30 a.m.
“The parking lot is packed,” Shapiro said Feb. 28. “It’s business as usual.”
She said police have reported no leads on the identity of the caller.
The incident comes amid a spate of bomb threats to JCCs, schools and Jewish institutions in the United States, in addition to cemetery vandalisms.
