A call to 911 on Wednesday afternoon alerted Montreal police to the fact that gunfire had recently been aimed at Belz Community School in the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough of Montreal.

The projectile impacts were confirmed, although it was not yet clear when exactly the shooting occurred, and no one was injured.

The confirmation nonetheless elicited reactions from organizations and politicians while police continue their investigation.

Last weekend, an overnight shooting directed at Bais Chaya Mushka Elementary School in Toronto was captured on security video. Police have yet to release an update on their search for suspects.

Also last week, Montreal police arrested a male suspect in connection with the November 2023 shootings at Yeshiva Gedola.

Belz Community School is located in the same building as the Young Israel of Montreal synagogue, which serves the modern Orthodox community in NDG.

A police car has remained on the scene as crime scene technicians search for any other evidence related to a shooting.
