Arab preteens stab Jerusalem security guard

The security guard's condition has been listed as stable

Two Arab youths, aged 12 and 14, stabbed an Israeli security guard at a light rail station in the northeastern Jerusalem neighbourhood of Pisgat Ze’ev Tuesday.

The security guard, moderately wounded in the attack, was able to fire his weapon at the suspects, wounding the younger boy. Civilians on the light rail subdued the second attacker until police officers arrived.

According to Ynet News, the attackers were cousins Moawiyah and Ali Alkam, one from the Shuafat refugee camp and the other from Beit Hanina. Their uncle is reportedly a well-known figure in the Shuafat camp and has repeatedly called for attacks against Jews and Israelis.

Magen David Adom (MDA) reports that the victim suffered stabbing wounds to the upper body. “I saw that the train had stopped and on the scene there were large numbers of police officers and security guards,” David Dalfan, an MDA paramedic, told the Times of Israel. “A young man, approximately 24 years old, was lying on the ground next to the curb. He was fully conscious with superficial stab wounds. We quickly gave him first aid and loaded him onto an ambulance.”

The guard was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Centre for treatment. His condition is stable.

The 12-year-old attacker was also treated by paramedics, before being evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem. He is listed as being in “serious” condition.

Minutes after the attack in Pisgat Ze’ev, a 37-year-old attacker from East Jerusalem attempted to stab Israeli police officers near Damascus Gate, but his attempts were thwarted by police who shot him before he was able to injure anyone.

He later died of his wounds after being taken to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital.
