Treasure Trove urges you to cast a vote for the Canadian delegates to the Zionist Congress

Voting is open now and ends June 15.

For the first time in anyone’s memory, Canada is holding an election for its delegates to the Zionist Congress. (Previously delegates were selected by the Canadian Zionist Federation). This is a big deal.

The 39th Zionist Congress will take place in Jerusalem in October with over 700 delegates from around the world expected to attend. Twenty of those delegates will be from Canada.

The election in Canada takes place between June 5 and 15, and is open to every Jewish Canadian over 18 who supports the Jerusalem Program of the World Zionist Organization and has not previously voted. Details about how to vote are available at https://czf.ca/2025-elections/ .

When you cast your ballot, you vote for a slate of delegates and the Canadian spots will be allocated proportionally among the slates, and according to an order determined within each slate. The election is administered by the Canadian Zionist Federation which requires that each slate have at least 25 percent of its candidates be between ages 18 and 35 and at least 40 percent of its candidates be women.

The Zionist Congress is the parliament of the Jewish People, and continues a proud tradition started by Theodor Herzl when he convened the first Congress in Basel in 1897. Voting for delegates is part of this tradition.

This is the Labour party slate for the election of delegates from the Land of Israel for the 18th Congress that was held in Prague in 1933. The slate includes the following luminaries from the early days of Israel’s statehood with the numerical reference being their position on the slate:

1. David Ben Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister.

4. Moshe Shertok (later Sharett), Israel’s second prime minister.

7. Yitzhak Ben Zvi, Israel’s second president.

9. Zalman Robishov (later Shazar), Israel’s third president.

17. Levi Shkolnick (later Eshkol), Israel’s third prime minister.

27. Golda Meyerson (later Meir), Israel’s fourth prime minister.

Before the election period expires at 11:59 pm (Pacific time) on June 15, please be sure to cast your vote. We have a chance to select the Canadians who will represent us at the Zionist Congress this year.
