Tag TeamTELUS Health and Baycrest Health Sciences teamed up for a fundraising initiative for the field of aging and brain health. Last year, the project raised $1.3 million.

United States

Flag Wars: Camp Solomon Schechter in Washington state caused a stir when it raised a Palestinian flag to greet a contingent of Palestinian visitors. The group was from Kids 4 Peace and the camp circulated a letter stating, “For the sake of a teachable moment, we did raise the Palestinian flag as a sign of friendship and acceptance.”

Transcendent Travels: The hit series Transparent, which follows a dysfunctional Jewish family with a transgender parent, is stopping by Israel for its fourth season. The season will follow the family’s visit to Israel and feature stops in Jerusalem’s Old City, the Dead Sea, camel rides, and a West Bank checkpoint.

Exhausted and Stressed: The Palestinian Authority’s President Mahmoud Abbas was hospitalized Saturday. According to reports from Ha’aretz, the Israeli security establishment is fearful that Abbas’s deteriorating health could lead to significant political uncertainty and turmoil.

Middle East

Deadly Dividends: According to the Palestinian Authority’s 2017 budget, published in early July, payments to inmates in Israeli prisons and “families of martyrs” were equal to half of the foreign aid Ramallah anticipates it will receive this year. It amounted to US$153.4 million.
