Israeli startup unveils eco-friendly disposable phone charger

On Monday, Israeli startup Mobeego launched two versions of its brand-new cellphone charger, to be available in Israel, the U.S., Germany, France, South Africa, Russia, Belgium, and Chile.

The first charger, billed as an “energy drink for the mobile phone” (and even designed as an energy drink can), is inexpensive, environmentally-friendly, and disposable. It does not require an electrical outlet, and is designed for people on-the-go who don’t have time to charge their smartphones the traditional way. The charger will power any smartphone for approximately four hours, and is encouraged to be recycled at special Mobeego facilities to help the environment.

In Israel, the charger will be available for NIS 10 (roughly $3), and for US$2.50 in the U.S. According to Mobeego, which plans to sell “hundreds of thousands” of chargers in the coming months, the charger is compatible with both Android and Apple operating systems.

The second charger is a miniature adapter (non-disposable) that can connect to your smartphone’s charging outlet, and will be sold for US$5.

Mobeego was founded last year by Israeli entrepreneurs, with its headquarters in Ashdod, and production centre in China. According to Israel business daily Globes, the company’s goal is for cellphone users to never “get stuck without power” during the day. The charger is compliant with CE and FCC standards.

According to a spokesperson for the company, in a statement to The CJN, Mobeego is currently in talks with potential partners in Canada. “Hopefully, we will get there soon,” the spokesperson said.
