Female Jewish comics: Fighting double the double standards

Three comics dig into the intersection of feminism, Judaism and comedy.
From top left: Rachel Manson, Natalie Norman and Laura Leibow chat about life at the intersection of feminism, Judaism and comedy.

Admiring your bubbes, meeting matchmakers, speaking Yiddish to your lovers: this is life as a female Jewish comic. These women put themselves out there for the world, exposing vulnerabilities and frustrations while trying to make audiences laugh along.

For the latest episode of Shticks & Giggles, The CJN’s podcast about Jews and comedy, comedian Laura Leibow sat down with fellow Canadian funnywomen Natalie Norman and Rachel Manson to chat about Judaism, feminism, getting Botox and breaking through the male-dominated stereotypes of Jewish stand-ups.

Support the Media that Speaks to You

Jewish Canadians deserve more than social media rumours, adversarial action alerts, and reporting with biases that are often undisclosed. The Canadian Jewish News proudly offers independent national coverage on issues that impact our audience each day, as a conduit for conversations that bridge generations.

It’s an outlet you can count on—but we’re also counting on you.

Please support Jewish journalism that’s creative, innovative, and dedicated to breaking new ground to serve your community, while building on media traditions of the past 65 years. As a Registered Journalism Organization, contributions of any size are eligible for a charitable tax receipt.
