ICRF’S MEGA-SUCCESS
The Israel Cancer Research Fund’s recent annual fundraising gala with the legendary Beach Boys at Place des Arts raised more than $700,000, co-chairs Paul Ostrov and Gloria Richman reported. An emotional climax took place when during the auction portion of the evening with Ross Paperman, guest Rhona Fainman used the occasion to reveal that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer that same day and to personally pledge $18,000. Others were so moved that they ending up pledging an additional $66,000 at the event.
L. B. PEARSON AND ELDERCARE
For the second year, the Lester B. Pearson School Board and Jewish Eldercare Centre (JEC) have spent the school year working together in an intergenerational and intercultural art program. Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School students and 12 JEC residents formed relationships through correspondence and reciprocal visits, sharing seniors’ stories while students created artworks, culminating with a vernissage displaying them at the JEC.

Simon Bitton, owner of Foot Solutions in Westmount, recently allowed his business to be used as a depot for boxes of gently used shoes being collected for Soles4Souls, a charity that collects them for distribution to people in need in 125 countries. More than 500 pairs were collected.
