LAG B’OMER PARADE

The Great Lag b’Omer Parade starts off at 1 p.m. from the parking lot of Beth Israel Beth Aaron Congregation and the caravan heads to Pierre Elliott Trudeau park across the street for a carnival that lasts until 5 p.m. Rides are free with a $5 day pass for the event, sponsored by the Chabad Lubavitch Youth Organization. This is the earliest Lag b’Omer parade in Montreal since 1994, when the holiday fell on April 29. The last year it fell on April 28 was 1899, 114 years ago.

Jewish National Fund Montreal is one many beneficiaries at this year’s 10th annual  ScotiaBank 21-km and 5-km Montreal Charity Challenge, with funds earmarked for a Jerusalem playground for special needs children and for rebuilding a walking-bike path at Canada-Ayalon Park. 3RD HIP-HOP 4 HOPE

The third annual Hip-Hop 4 Hope fundraising dance workshop for the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation will be May 9 at Riverdale High School in Pierrefonds. The event was the brainchild of then-11-year-old West Island resident Alexa Nozetz, and this year’s version includes a workshop by professional dancers, as well as raffle, prizes, autograph-signings and photos. UNIQUE YOM HASHOAH

Israeli consul-general Joël Lion and Polish counterpart Andrzej Szydlo marked Yom Hashoah together for the first time at a Quebec City ceremony at the Chateau Laurier Hotel with the Jewish community and its chief Rabbi Dovid Lewin in attendance, as well as MNAs Lawrence Bergman, Daniel Zatthe and Stephane Lebouyonne. The National Assembly has marked the day since 1999.
