JOURNALIST’S LEGACY
A full collection of the late journalist Gerald Clark’s articles, journals, letters, souvenirs and manuscripts was donated this past summer to the Concordia University Archives by his widow, Barbara. Clark died four years ago at age 88 and left a legacy as one of the country’s best-known and most respected journalists. He was the first Jewish editor-in-chief of the McGill Daily and worked for Canadian Press, the Montreal Standard and the Montreal Star, travelling extensively and producing landmark newspaper reports, magazine articles and a documentary on China as an emerging giant. Clark also covered and visited Israel many times and interviewed every major Israeli leader. Clark wrote five books and freelanced extensively in a career that spanned close to 70 years. Clark’s papers will made available for research by students and others interested in the historic period “so scrupulously chronicled by Gerald,” Barbara Clark said.

The Jewish General Hospital’s recent annual meeting marked the institution’s 75th anniversary, with executive director Dr. Hartley Stern, new research director Dr. Roderick McInnes and president Bernard Stotland singing its praises and bestowing several 75th anniversary Lifetime Achievement Awards to venerable supporters such as Morton Brownstein, Leonard Ellen, Leo Kolber, and Henri Elbaz.
