JGH AWARDS
Glenn Nashen, the Jewish General Hospital’s director of public affairs and communications, recently accepted three Hygeia Awards on behalf of his department: the JGH staff magazine Pulse, co-edited by Laure-Elise Singer and Henry Mietkiewicz, won first prize in the internal newsletter category; the JGH’s 75th anniversary tribute video won first prize for multimedia productions category, and the JGH website won third prize in the website category.

NEW WING AT INSTITUTE

The Feuerstein Institute’s Centre for Cognitive Rehabilitation in Jerusalem has a new wing courtesy of Johanne and Norman Sternthal of Montreal. A press release from the institute, founded and chaired by Prof. Reuven Feuerstein, said the centre has been able to expand and upgrade its facilities and move into the new wing thanks to the Sternthals’ generosity. The new wing was dedicated on May 13.

Goldie Sigal, a member of the Jewish Public Library’s Yiddish committee, recently received the prize in Yiddish literature and translation from Yiddish at the Canadian Jewish Book Awards, for her publication of Stingy Buzi and King Solomon, a comic book with Yiddish and transliteration in the dialogue balloons. The award was to be presented May 27 in Toronto.

Lynne McVey, the Jewish General Hospital’s director of nursing, was recently awarded the Prix Florence for outstanding achievement by Quebec’s Order of Nurses. The award highlights the “exceptional contribution of a nurse whose achievements, qualities, and personal and professional commitment have acted as a positive influence and are a source of motivation and inspiration.”
