Five Questions About Israel
Yaron is the Regional Director to Canada at the Jewish Agency for Israel. Prior to that, for almost three and a half decades, he was considered one of the most respected and well-known journalists in Israel, as a reporter, editor and show host. He served as the editor in chief and CEO of Galei Tsahal, a national public radio station, as well as the Washington, D.C., bureau chief for Israeli Public TV. He has interviewed three American presidents—George W. Bush, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton—and has closely followed the ins and outs of Israeli politics and governance, developing close relationships with key decision-makers in his home country. Deckel is the winner of several awards, including the Sokolov Award, the most prestigious award for journalists in Israel, and the B’nai Brith award for special coverage of the Jewish community in the U.S.
Dan is currently the Executive Director of the Windsor Jewish Federation & Community Centre. Although originally from the U.S., he has spent the majority of his adult life in Israel and South Africa, arriving in Canada in late 2020. He has worked in immigration, public advocacy and entrepreneurship for most of his career, having established a successful travel startup in South Africa. Through his current role, he most recently launched J Welcome Home, an immigration program to grow three smaller Jewish communities in Ontario. He has visited more than 80 countries and is an avid travel writer, having reported on destinations such as Iran, Lebanon and Iraq. Contact him at [email protected].
