A message from The CJN Daily team

Our show will resume later this summer.

As some of you may already know, last week, Evan Friedlan passed away at 23—the youngest son of The CJN Daily host Ellin Bessner. For now, our show will be taking some time off.

We at The CJN are extending our deepest condolences to Ellin; her husband, John Friedlan; and Evan’s brother, Alex.

Ellin has invited anyone who wishes to share messages of condolence to email her at [email protected]. Below is Evan’s obiturary, posted originally to Steeles Memorial Chapel.

Evan Shayne Bessner Friedlan passed away in a tragic accident on July 26, 2023. Evan was the beloved and cherished son of Ellin Bessner and John Friedlan, and the treasured younger brother of Alex Friedlan. Adored grandson of Lois Lieff, the late Morton Bessner, and the late Irving and Ruth Friedlan. Evan was the special nephew of Brenda and Ken Adessky, Philip Friedlan, and Donna Freeman and cousin of Jacob, Avery,Noah, Adam, and Nikki.

With his beaming smile and infectious joy, Evan brought meaning into the lives of everyone he touched. Evan was disciplined, confident, and exceptionally bright. His greatest passions were rap music, fashion, fitness, and sport. He was a loyal friend.

We are blessed to have had Evan in our family for the short 23 years of his life.

Shiva begins Sunday at Evan’s home following the funeral service. Monday – Wednesday 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m., 7:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the evening services at 7:30 p.m.
