Pascale Déry, who lost her bid to be the Conservative candidate in Mount Royal, will be the flag-bearer for that party in the riding of Drummond in this fall’s federal election.
Déry launched her campaign on June 14 in Drummondville, the riding’s largest city, accompanied by the Conservatives’ Quebec lieutenant, Infrastructure Minister Denis Lebel.
Drummondville is about 100 kilometres northeast of Montreal.
Drummond is currently held by New Democrat François Choquette, and previously was represented by the Bloc Québécois. The Progressive Conservatives held it from 1984 to 1993 during Brian Mulroney’s leadership of the party.
Robert Libman was chosen by the party over Déry at Mount Royal’s nomination meeting in April.
She was unopposed for the Drummond nomination.
Déry, who lives in Mount Royal riding, was a television journalist for 15 years for TVA and, earlier, TQS. She resigned from her job in January to launch a political career.
The fact that she is Jewish and from outside the riding did not escape one person who commented on ICI Radio-Canada’s website. “Parachuted and Zionist, she starts with two strikes against her,” wrote Guy Drolet.
