A Toronto man is facing criminal charges for shouting “Heil Hitler” and accosting participants at a Jewish community event last spring.

On May 20, Ali Amirsalam was allegedly filmed shouting, “Hitler, please come back and kill all the Jews – not 100 per cent, but 90 per cent of them,” at the 2019 Toronto Walk with Israel. B’nai Brith Canada filed a complaint with Toronto police shortly afterwards.

Amirsalam also recorded his outburst, saying that money be taken from Jews and “given to the poorer children of God,” and uploaded it to Twitter. He also posted a video of an Israeli flag being burned, and called for “no more Israel on the planet earth.”

Amirsalam has been charged with one count each of uttering death threats and causing a disturbance, and was released, with conditions.

“These charges send a clear message: those who threaten Jews and disrupt Jewish community events will face consequences,” Michael Mostyn, CEO of B’nai Brith Canada, said in a news release.

Amirsalam, 74, is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 10.
