Book Award Finalist
TORONTO — New Jewish Feminism, a recent book edited by Rabbi Elyse Goldstein, rabbinic director of Kolel: The Adult Centre for Liberal Jewish Learning in Toronto, has been selected as a finalist in the 2008 National Book Awards in the category of women’s studies, the Jewish Book Council said last week. The awards, sponsored by the New York-based council, have been handed out since 1948.
Shoah Day Marked
TORONTO — The 2005 resolution establishing the United Nations’ annual Holocaust Remembrance Day on Jan. 27 entrenches the lessons of the Shoah, rejects Holocaust denial, condemns all intolerance and is a call to action to end genocides in places such as Darfur, Canadian Jewish Congress said in marking the day last week. The day also “reaffirms the UN’s paramount role and responsibility in preventing future instances of genocide,” CJC co-president Rabbi Reuven Bulka said in a statement.
