Revisionism Rapped

MONTREAL —  Canadian Jewish Congress joined local Rwandan leaders to condemn a Montreal conference that questioned the accuracy of the 1994 genocide against Rwanda’s Tutsis and moderate Hutus. Titled “The Media and Rwanda: The Difficult Search for Truth,” last week’s event featured panellists who have “used their voices in the media, politics and law to launch an unacceptable historical debate and framing the Tutsi victims as perpetrators,” CJC said. It joined the groups PAGE-Rwanda and Humura to unveil a slate of events marking 14 years since the massacre of some 800,000 people. “The questioning of whether genocide actually took place in Rwanda is absurd, bordering on hateful,” CJC executive member Adam Atlas said.

New Group Formed

TORONTO — More than 100 left-wing Jewish activists from 18 different groups met March 28 to 30 in Toronto to form a network of “anti-occupation groups” that say they’re seeking “real peace and justice in the Middle East.” Convened by the Alliance of Concerned Jewish Canadians, the meeting challenged the views of mainstream Jewish groups and the Harper government, who all “uncritically support the Israeli government’s violations of international and humanitarian law,” organizers said. Author Naomi Klein was keynote speaker.
