CJC Recalls Rwanda
TORONTO — Canadian Jewish Congress last week joined PAGE-Rwanda, a group for parents and friends of genocide victims in Rwanda, to mark the 15th anniversary of the Rwanda massacre. It began April 7, 1994, and over 100 days, some 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were slain by Hutu extremists.
Eating For Israel
TORONTO — Kosher restaurants in Toronto and Montreal will take part in the fifth annual America Eats for Israel fundraiser. On April 22, restaurants such as Marky’s, Joe Boos, Golden Chopsticks and My Zaidy’s Kosher Sushi in Toronto, and Morty’s Steakhouse and Restaurant El Morocco in Montreal will donate 10 per cent of their gross revenues to American Friends of Meir Panim, which helps fund hot meals and relief centres for impoverished Israelis.
Contest Seeks Entries
TORONTO — B’nai Brith Canada last week launched its annual Students Human Rights Awards competition for students in grades 1 to 12. The national contest is open to young people of all backgrounds. It’s seeking entries that “creatively engage youth in seeking solutions to real and pressing human rights problems” in Canada, B’nai Brith said. Prizes are awarded in four age categories. Submission deadline is May 22. Details at bnaibrith.ca.
