Lorry Lokey, founder of Business Wire, donated US$10 million to the University of Haifa, it was announced on Wednesday. At least four buildings will be built in in the Port of Haifa and the city’s downtown area. Lokey has donated more than US$800 million – around 98 per cent of his lifetime earnings – to philanthropies, universities and educational institutions.
An Israeli Defence Ministry committee approved the construction of almost 2,000 homes in the West Bank. Approximately 300 of them are located in isolated settlements. The plans include the authorization of two illegal outposts, Zayit Raanan and Brosh.
Award-winning chef Jordan Wagman will be hosting a fundraising event, serving a five-course farm-to-table meal, on June 10 in Toronto. The fundraiser will raise money for Jerome D. Diamond Adolescent Centre, a youth mental health centre operated by Jewish Family & Child and the Toronto District School Board. When Wagman was in Grade 11 he attended the centre.
A handwritten manuscript written by Franz Kafka received nearly US$175,000 at an auction in Germany on Saturday. The manuscript was the introduction to a book titled Richard and Samuel that was never written. A private collector won the auction.
