Brad Pitt buys Nazi-era motorbike for nearly $400k

It seems that Brad Pitt has developed a fondness for World War II memorabilia, apparently since starring in period pieces like David Ayer's Fury, and Quentin Tarantino’s instant cult classic, Inglorious Basterds, though the latter isn’t as much a period piece as it is a fantasy (a damn entertaining one, though).

Furthering his quest to own vintage, World War II-era relics, the 51-year-old Pitt has recently purchased a rare 1942 motorbike used by the Nazis during reconnaissance missions.

Furthering his quest to own vintage, World War II-era relics, the 51-year-old Pitt has recently purchased a rare 1942 motorbike used by the Nazis during reconnaissance missions.

According to the Daily Mirror, the actor paid some $387,000 for it.

The motorbike was reportedly used by the Nazis to ride around the mountains of Greece’s largest island, Crete, and was sold at an auction in 1945 after the Nazis left the island. Currently, there are only 500 of such bikes left in the world.

The man who sold the bike to Pitt, identified by the Mirror as Yannis, said that, “They are collectors pieces like paintings and go up in value all the time.”

“It’s a way for wealthy people to invest their money and also enjoy their hobby,” he added.

In that case, we truly hope that Pitt is enjoying his new ride, even if it did formerly belong to some of the most despicable hoodlums of the past century.
